How Coaching Helps Work at Home Moms Start a Home Based Business
50I’m sorry. I don’t mean to leave out dads, students or anyone else that wants to start a home-based-business. I like dads. In fact I’m married to one. It’s just that I am a stay-at-home mom so that is my perspective. This applies to anyone who dreams of being an entrepreneur. But what do we need to know before we can talk about how a coach helps you? Yes, what is a coach?
The most familiar type of coach is an athletic coach. That person who provides the leadership, direction and discipline needed for an athlete to reach their fullest potential.
An Entrepreneur’s Coach provides support, guidance and accountability to help an entrepreneur reach their goals. How do they do that?
Client Focused
In the coaching relationship, all focus is on YOU, the client.
The basic formula for coaching is to create a safe environment for you by establishing confidence and trust. Then through active listening the coach asks you powerful questions. This is to help you find the answers within. You control the creative process and your coach is a partner.
There are many roads to any destination but there is only one right way for you. Once you have identified your goal, your coach helps you find the path. Then they walk beside you on your journey. Since your path is correct for you, the coach doesn’t give any directions.
Coach’s can help you articulate your principals, identify your passions and describe your goals. Your coach will help you define a plan of action. Then will hold you accountable to the plan that you have committed to. While supporting your progress a coach can help you brainstorm solutions for challenges. And short cuts around obstacles.
Since you are the focus of each coaching session, the investment is totally in you. The dividends you receive are the empowerment, growth and knowledge you embrace. And sometimes it is just encouraging to talk to someone who understands, listens and cares.
In contrast is the role of the consultant. A consultant is usually a business expert that gives an explicit directive or opinion. A coach draws the answer out of you while a consultant tells you the answer. On occasion you may need your coach to provide you with consultative information but this is the exception rather than the rule. So who am I?
Inspiring Your Purpose
I myself am an entrepreneur. The journey for me started when our kids were very young. I thought I needed to have something on my resumé while I was a stay-at-home mom so I started a real estate investment company and worked for myself. I enjoyed having the flexibility to work when it was convenient for me. I built a nice portfolio and the income just covers the expenses. When I decided to re-enter the workforce I was even marketable with this experience.
However, I have since decided that I really enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom. This time I also wanted to do something more fulfilling with my career. After much reflection and soul searching I was certain my purpose in life is to empower others to live their dreams. And I didn’t know where to begin.
I remember starting this journey. I felt alone and scared. I didn’t want to become a victim of a scam and I didn’t want to waste my hard earned money. I took my time and an opportunity found me. Becoming a coach resonated with my soul and I immediately began to pursue ICF certification.
I discovered the awesome power of coaching by being coached. It is now my intention of sharing the value of coaching to others.
